Based on his iconic 1884 painting, this musical is about George Seurat and his relationship to his work and the subjects he paints. In Act II, Seurat's great grandson unveils a new interpretation of the piece to a 1984 audience. The challenge of this design was interpreting the colors, fabrics, and historical details represented in pointillism. This design uses the silhouettes and major colors from the painting but incorporates additional details that reflect Sondheim's characters. Act II's design shares colors with Act I's for a cohesive look.
