Alyssa Ridder is a freelance costume designer and doctoral researcher at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. Her thesis investigates the agency and meaning-making of digital costume design in virtual reality performance.
Alyssa has previously held academic positions in costume design and technology at Metropolitan State University of Denver in Denver, Colorado and George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon. She received her MFA in costume design from The Pennsylvania State University.
Alyssa’s passion for design is in evoking empathy and togetherness among non-traditional audiences and is an advocate for ethical design practice. She is an industry leader in integrating digital technology with traditional costume methods for more accessible and sustainable production workflows and offers education in CLO to clients around the world.
